The Challenge

Why does this project matter?

Rural communities are among the territories most affected by climate change. At the same time, older generations possess a wealth of traditional knowledge about water management, agriculture, biodiversity and sustainable living practices.

Unfortunately, this knowledge is often overlooked in climate planning processes.

RURAL SECAPS seeks to bridge this gap by creating opportunities for seniors to participate actively in local climate action initiatives while strengthening their green and digital competences.

Our Mission

Bringing experience into climate action

  • Empower seniors to participate in local Climate Action Plans.
  • Strengthen green and digital skills among older adults.
  • Preserve and promote traditional environmental knowledge.
  • Create innovative learning opportunities in rural areas.
  • Encourage active citizenship and community participation.
  • Foster collaboration between rural communities across Europe.

Objectives

Main Objective

To empower elderly people in rural communities through educational approaches that strengthen green and digital competences and support their participation in local climate action initiatives.

Specific Objectives

  • Develop educational resources on Climate Action Plans.
  • Improve green and digital competences among seniors.
  • Create participatory methodologies based on citizen science.
  • Integrate traditional and local knowledge into climate action.
  • Promote transnational exchange of experiences between rural seniors.
